Black Sea Resorts

Beach and soft sand on the sea-shore, sand caressed by the cool breeze, sea sports off shore, romantic walks accompanied by the crashing waves, sunrise enflamed by the sea wrapped in the shouts of the seagulls that circle around above the water, complete treatments in health centres; these are just a few of the special experiences awaiting the tourist who dwells on the Romanian shore.

At Romanian resorts you can find a wide range of alternatives. You can relax on the hot sand beaches or near an exquisite pool of a luxury hotel, find all-night parties by the first sun ray, or participate in energetic sea sports.  Whatever you choose to do, you will spend an unforgettable summer holiday on the Black Sea shore and will regret the moment of your departure.

The Romanian sea shore stretches as a lace-like strip with bays on a 82 km area, from the North of Constanta up to the Bulgarian border in the South. On this very strip the 12 Black Sea resorts stand in a row like a string of pearls. Facing the East, all beaches are bathed by the sun rays for 10-12 hours a day in summer, a detail you can not find too often in Europe. A genuine delight for suntan and swimming fans!

In addition, the shoreline is shallow and the waves are usually very small, which renders the sea accessible even to children and those who can not swim. Along the waterfronts you can retire to a terrace in the cool breeze of the silent poplars and birch trees which majestically surround the merry tumult of hot summer.

The Black Sea offers a lot of options for ways you may spend the summer holiday. In every resort you can practice sea sports: yachting, scuba diving, jet ski rides, but also tennis, riding, bowling, volleyball or sand football. For fun lovers night life is extremely varied in the sea resorts and one can choose among the numerous discos, casinos, clubs, theme parks, bars or romantic terraces on the beach.

Mamaia and Neptun Olimp have spas, special places for children, restaurants with worldwide famous chefs, private beaches with sun umbrellas, and beach bars. Jupiter, Venus, Saturn and Aurora are destinations for everybody. Here you can find hotels and villas accessible where you can enjoy the quality services and facilities, restaurants with all kinds of local and world specialties, water parks and, above all, sunny beaches with silky sand and calm waves.

The mud that you can find in Techirghiol lake has therapeutical properties. It can be used with good results in the treatment of different diseases. Moreover, the salty water-sand-air-sun complex is very beneficial for health, performing real miracles for the ones who come for treatment.

For youth there is Costinesti, a place full of music, life and entertainment which never sleeps. For the unconventional holiday fans there are 2 Mai and Vama Veche, two old fishermen villages which turned into unconventional resorts where students and artists gather. A special resort is Mangalia, the most Southern seaside town, where the sun and the sea water mingle harmoniously with the stone carved vestiges of the ancient Greeks.

What you have to know
To fully enjoy what the Romanian shore offers you, the best period to spend your holiday here is summer, starting with the beginning of June until the end of September. If the weather is good, you can come here even in May, but the sea water may be slightly cold and you can not swim at will.

Average temperatures on the sea shore;
month     May    June    July   August     September
Max        21,4      23,8    26,8      26             25,3
Min        14,4       15,4    17,3     17,4          17,3

In the Black Sea there are no sharks, but there is a limit marked by buoys up to which you can venture swimming.

Access:
- by car from Bucharest on the “Sun Highway” (A2) – still under construction, to Constanta there are 225 km and then on the E39 road which links the Northern part of the seashore to the Southern one; from the main road you turn left towards each resort, obeying the traffic signs.
- by train – approximately a 4hour journey by intercity train (link to www.cfr.ro)
- by plane – during summer there are charter flights, destination “Mihail Kogalniceanu” International Airport which can be found 25 km from Constanta.

Accommodation:
You can find accommodation at hotels (1* - 4*), according to the preferences. Additionally, there are numerous board and lodgings which have appeared recently. For those less demanding, in each resort there are camping areas where you can stay in cottages or you can settle your tent.

For parents and children, the Black Sea shore is a perfect opportunity to spend the summer holiday in natural wonder. All family members can safely enjoy the seawater and the sea aerosols, as well as the theme parks.
