The quality and variety of the Romanian musical life is great: concerts of classical music, opera and operetta shows, folk music, jazz and rock. In the capital, the ”George Enescu” International Classical Music Festival showcased musicians acknowledged on all continents, as well as young talents in full assertion. Jazz lovers can opt for Sibiu, where, every year, there takes place a jazz festival whose fame surpasses national borders.
The repertories of Romanian theatres feature remarkable performances of actors appreciated for their work on stage, as well as in films.
For film fans and others, Romania houses several dynamic and nonconformist international festivals: The Transylvania International Film Festival (TIFF) which takes place in Cluj every year, “Anonimul” (The Anonymous) Independent International Film Festival organized in an unconventional scenery – Sfântul Gheorghe village in the Danube Delta, or Dakino Festival, taking place in Bucharest.
A totally out-of-the-ordinary festival is the one from Sighişoara; in summer, the century old little streets of this beautiful medieval city echo with the lutes’ music and the jesters’ jokes. Knights, princesses, fools, and minstrels in multicoloured costumes bring to life the medieval era, and its art, for a few days.
The capital, but also the other great cities of the country, offer numerous clubs and discos where live music is played and dancing continues into the night. Whether your tastes run to ”oldies but goldies ”, or house and alternative rock, you can always find a place to have fun until dawn. You will also find casinos and numerous pleasant coffee shops at the great hotels, as well as on the avenues along city centres. You will definitely have a ”full” holiday in Romania !
