Balnear resorts and treatments
Mineral and thermal waters, the mud with therapeutical properties, the mofetts (CO2 natural emissions) and The Black Sea sea coast are especially attractive aspects of balnear tourism in Romania. The healing effects of the springs offer organic elements and minerals, as well as gases dissolved in thermal waters. All of these make possible the use of mineral waters in the treatment of a variety of diseases, including those of the endocrine, digestive and nervous systems, respiratory diseases, and skin, gynaecological and heart diseases.
The geriatrics cure – ”Ana Aslan” Gerontology and Geriatrics National Institute
Eternal youth ... this dream of people led to the development of some new fields in medicine, gerontology and geriatrics in Romania, most notably those of the academic and Doctor Ana Aslan. In 1952, she developed vitamin H3 (Gerovital), a pharmaceutical product in the treatment of aging-related phenomena, as well as in the treatment of old age diseases, arteriosclerosis, vitiligo, scleroderma, and other diseases and conditions.

At Buzias there are diverse accommodation possibilities and several treatment centres with equipment for hot mineral waters, psychotherapeutic, mofettes, hydrotherapy, massage and medical gymnastics, pluming for aerosols, all procedures that take place under the careful surveillance of the specialized medical stuff. For those who come here to spend their holiday, there are numerous opportunities to which visitors can devote their free time: a gym, a dendrology park which houses many rare tree species, the Recas wine cellars of the resort, and the nearby city of Timisoara. The architecture in Turkish – Byzantine style – renders the resort unique in Romania, and the promenade similar to those from Karlovy Vary and Baden Baden, offer a perfect scenery for your holiday.

A special attraction of this resort is the salty water lake made after the caving in of the galleries from where salt had been extracted since the Roman Epoch.
Apart from these two great tourist centres, Maramures offers numerous other wonderful holiday locations: Izvoarele (The Springs) – in the North of The Ignis Mountains with dream-like sceneries and ski slopes to cater all tastes, or Mogosa – 20 km from Baia Mare. St. Ana Lake
In a crater of volcanic origin, surrounded by green coniferous forests, the lake presents itself from the height of the road under the shape of a painter’s palette. Situated at an altitude of 946m, it is unique in Central Europe because it is situated in the crater of a former volcano.
Its water is very clean, but cannot be drunk because of the lack of mineral salts. In summer, when the sunrays heat the earth, the shore of the lake is an ideal place for recreation and especially for bathing.
